One of my best friends makes, in my opinion, the best gin + tonics. And while I may not be as much of a social drinker as my some of my friends, I will never refuse the cocktail if he’s the one offering it. I was in Whole Foods last week and saw that, by some miracle, they had blood oranges in stock. Since they usually aren’t in season for another month or two, I scooped up as many as I could carry. I felt like I won some sort of produce lottery.
I have a couple of ideas on how I want to use them, but making a cocktail with freshly-squeezed blood orange juice was simply a MUST. So behold, a blood orange gin + tonic.
2 oz gin
5 oz tonic water
1 oz fresh blood orange juice (1-2 blood oranges)
blood oranges slices and rosemary sprigs for garnish
Combine blood orange juice and tonic water in a glass. Add gin and crushed ice into a separate, chilled glass. Top with blood orange tonic and garnish with one sprig of rosemary and one blood orange slice.
