One thing that I wanted to focus on when relaunching this blog is community. There are so many women out there doing amazing work, and I wanted a part of this new space to be dedicated to it. ‘Who She Is’ is a series where I talk to females that are simple killing it in their field, and I’m too excited to start it off with a chat with Amy Stone.
Amy has inspired me constantly since I discovered her Instagram feed a few years ago. If you’re not already following her, I highly suggest you do so immediately. When I’m scrolling through my feed, I almost instantly recognize one of her photos, because her photography style is so distinct that it’s almost euphoric. She’s also extremely busy as a social creative at Gap (hello, dream job) so I’m excited that she took some time out of her busy schedule to chat!
What does a typical workday for Amy Stone look like?
Every morning, I wake up and get a latte from the coffee shop down the block from me. It’s the first thing I do! I then go back home, check emails, and get ready for work. It’s always been my favorite time in my day — when it’s still quiet out, I have a moment for myself, and it just feels peaceful. At work, I’m in meetings or answer emails all day. Occasionally, I’ll be at a shoot at a studio downtown! At the end of the day, I’ll either head home to my apartment and relax or get dinner with a friend or two.
Your Instagram unabashedly (and gorgeously) displays your love of cooler tones. Is there something about the color blue that you love specifically?
Thank you! I love blue for it’s ties to summer: the ocean, clear skies, nautical stripes. I also love how well blue pairs with other colors; I’m particularly drawn to it with red or brown right now.
Do you have any advice for those who are trying to build careers in social media?
I really think it’s important to be invested in the visual elements of social. I’ve found it infinitely beneficial to be well versed in the workings of the platforms from a creative side: crops, specs, design, and function.
Describe your personal aesthetic in three words.
Modern uptown bohemia.
I believe that beauty can be found in everyday life. Where do you turn to for inspiration?
I agree! I love paintings, books, antique shops, art museums, frequenting flower shops, visiting well designed hotels, and traveling to new places.
Favorite Instagram-worthy café/restaurant?
Right now, I’m loving the navy lacquered walls, gold fixtures, and pink serve wear at Cafe Americano on the Upper East Side! It’s so chic.
